Introduction
COMPUTRAVEL wish all our subscribers and visitors peace, prosperity
and goodwill in the New Year! 2007 was a year that seemed to have
been driven at a Lewis Hamilton pace with no pit stops or tyre changes
and this year may be as driven and action-packed as last year.
So
in scheduling your diary for 2008 a key element of that schedule
is the planning of holidays, short breaks or weekends away. In the
fast-paced world of today it is vital that we peel ourselves away
from cell phones, emails and the pressures of instant communication
long enough to give our minds and bodies a break.
A well-earned holiday
is time to recharge the old battered battery and discover the lighter
side of life. It is a time to leave the worries of life at home with
the pile of things you chose not too pack in your suitcase.
Choosing
a holiday best suited to your needs and budget is key to having a
good time. Which is why we have categorised holidays according to
type and budget making choice a little easier for the prospective
traveller. |

Island
Escapes
Indian
Ocean Islands is the destination of choice for many South
Africans judging by the amount of cyber traffic this region attracts
on the Computravel
website.
Zanzibar seems to be leading the
pack as the most trendy of island escapes. It has much to offer
from small laid-back guest houses situated on one of the many
magnificent beaches to 5
star luxurious holiday resorts or your
quintessential, far-flung island
lodge hideaway. There is a place
for every pocket where R & R is mandatory!
Mauritius is the
tried and tested hot favourite of many South Africans. It offers
all the accoutrements of an exotic
island holiday, without the
hazzle of visas, malaria prophylaxes or inoculations to worry
about and it is an enjoyable short flight direct to the island.
There is an island somewhere in the Indian Ocean just waiting
for you. If Zanzibar or Mauritius are not for you then consider
the Maldives, Seychelles or Madagascar’s Nosy Be or the
quaint island of Ille St Marie.

Egypt
Where you can ‘Walk like an Egyptian’, while discovering
the wonders and wisdom of the ancients in Cairo and along the Nile.
Cairo is Africa's largest city, where the activity may be frenetic
but you can explore the city's streets and grand 19th-century boulevards
where you'll discover ancient mosques, Coptic churches, Arab settlements,
the 10th-century palace-city, Saladin's imposing Citadel and the
minarets of Sultan Hassan's 13th-century gem of a mosque. In the
desert visit the pyramids, go horse riding or simply watch the sunset
over the Nile.
Surround yourself with the world’s most enduring
mysteries - perhaps the Sphinx knows a thing or two! |

Skiing
in Italy
Skiing – your best holiday ever! Just south of the Swiss
border and the legendary resort of St Moritz, nestling in the
windswept valley of Spöl lies the duty
free resort of Livigno.
Spread out over four villages, and five kilometres of road, Livigno
is famous for its duty-free status and more than lively atmosphere.
The resort boasts a range of slopes with perfect sunny conditions,
well suited to the beginner, intermediate skier and snowboarder.
An active nightlife and range of shopping opportunities attracts
a younger crowd and those looking for an animated ski experience.
The resort is a little different in that the facilities are spread
out over a wider area. Over 125 restaurants serve everything
from fast food to good Italian cuisine, while hundreds of bars
and shops cater for every budget. A couple of discotheques
provide late night entertainment, with hotels and apartments providing
accommodation.
There are also non-ski activities at the resort
such as paragliding, swimming, climbing and gym and there are
a number of walking trails around the surrounding mountainous
areas. For first time skiers this is a great place to discover
the excitement and exhilaration of a skiing holiday. |
